"Enjoying Good Music" Click the image to hear Dave spin When you think LOVE, that Godly love for something or someone, you think "Agape". When you think DJ, that kind of dj that doesn't just spins but enters an altered state, you think "Dave". Now think of a super DJ with more than just an earthly love of music and you get DJ Dave Agape. This cat being called a dj is probably really a misnomer, when it comes to the norm of djs. Yes, I said "cat" because when someone is this cool, this different, carrying this much of a vibe, they move and groove to their own beat. Or in this case an international mix of beats! Ladies... Gentlemen... and other DJs, IT'S DAVE AGAPE! Born in 1972 in Chicago, Dave Agape was raised around funk soul and disco of the late 70s. During the eairly 80s dave moved to Atwood, TN about 200 miles north of Memphis. Having been exposed to the early stages of house music on Chicago radio he new at a young age that he would always be involved with music. Urban radio wasn't anywhere around the small town of Atwood at the time so David used pipe cleaners and aluminum foil to get a reception from the radio stations in St. Louis and Memphis that had mix shows playing electronic (Dance Music) this was at the youndg age of 12. Summer breaks were spent in Chcago recording music off the radio and learning how to dj (age 14). Click the image to hear Dave spin some more During college Dave Agape did an internship in Washington DC where he was introduced to acid jazz and nu soul (about 1993) soon after he started spinning records around the DC area. Memphis was Dave's next stop, still having the underground music scene of DC fresh on his mind he started playing at places like Precious Cargo, Otherland and Java Cabana. Back then Dave Was known as Big Boy Agape later changing it to Dave Agape. Coming to grips that Memphis had little to no underground market he developed a entertainment group called "The Jet Set". This group of music lovers made it there life to expose Memphians to good music from all over the world. Dave Agape was the first dj for the movement when it was in it's infant stages. After having such a great response during the movement show Dave Agape and The Jet Set moved forward throwing shows in Memphis with recording artist BLUE STATES (London), NICOLA CONTA (Italy) and DESMOND WILLIAMS (Jamaica), all while having a very successful night at Melange (now known as Dish) called "Lush Tango". Dave has played stages in LA, DC, Holland and of course Memphis. If you have ever heard Dave spin a set, you will know that his soul is touched by music. Well he's back from retirement playing music that is truly timeless, the best in acid jazz, bossa nova, nusoul, underground hip hop and soul house. Bringing back to life his saying...
